Birthright Israel is back ~ Summer 2021 Part 1

Updated: Aug 10, 2021

For the first time since Winter 2019-2020, we have students attending a Birthright Israel trip! We have been everywhere thus far spanning the desert, the Dead Sea, and city life. These are the sights and words of reflection from some of the participants thus far!

I’ve absolutely loved all of the day activities that were pre-planned and how busy we have been kept because I feel like I am being given the opportunity to see all of the things I learned about when I was younger. This truly has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will never forget. - Olivia Duston

I am honored to be a part of this trip. Israel is beyond anything I could have imagined despite feeling a deep connection to it for most of my life. In Sunday school as early as the first grade I was told of the traditions in Israel like praying at the Western Wall. Later in life, I began to fight for Israel with groups like AIPAC and StandWithUs. It has been the trip of a lifetime to be here and I have never felt so at home despite being thousands of miles away from Virginia. - Ethan Myers

I liked the desert, but I've really liked engaging in a different culture. I found out that hummus is a main course and a different hand gesture for "wait." Touring winding streets and talking with Israelis opened my eyes to a world I had hardly thought about before. - Tim Weissman

When we were in the desert we went out for some star gazing and introspection. Taking time for myself and being in the moment was really enjoyable and refreshing. I also really enjoyed being around other Jews and made me feel more at home than I expected.

-Sophia Leventhal

I loved hiking Masada and learning the complex history of Judaism. Taglit has made me open up and befriend people that I would never have a chance to in my normal life. Israel has been incredible.
