Today we started working at our site. It’s a yellow shotgun house owned by a woman named Miss Anne. She has lived at this house almost her entire life, so evacuating from Katrina and going to Houston was very hard for her and her family,
In fact, she still keeps the car that got her and her family to safety and back home even though it broke down once they got home. The ties the people who live here have to the city is amazing. I am very much looking forward to helping Miss Anne fix her home, along with learning more amazing stories from the people who live here. It seems like everyone has been impacted by Hurricane Katrina in some way. - Maddie Pels, Class of 2021
