NOLA ASB 2020 - Painting Rain Barrels

It was our last day of volunteering in New Orleans, and after 4 days of construction work and building, we got to help an organization called Greenlight make rain barrels. I painted one, with the help of some of the other members of the trip. Afterward, we went to Autobahn Park and had a reflective discussion on activism. We saw some swans, ducks, and even a tree older than 300. Then we went back to the hostel and played a few games. This trip has been a meaningful experience with learning about systemic inequalities and the issues that are prevalent in New Orleans. It's been a learning experience that I think we all really benefitted from. I felt very excited and happy to be able to experience this city for the first time and to be able to make a positive impact on the lives of the residents who were most impacted by Katrina. - Michelle Uchitel, Class of 2021
